THE ROARING 20s - ACTRESSES SANNA AND ILSE

Hi guys,

last time I went to my former lab to teach an aspiring scientist some fancy lab methods that I developed during my PhD (oh what fun was is to be back at the lab bench. Not ;) I also met the lovely Sanna Paulick

Sanna is mostly an amazing actress, and is partly helping my ex-boss to organize his work life ;) She was born and raised in Germany and has moved to Vienna several years ago to pursue her dream of becoming an actress.

Sanna, together with the beautiful and ridiculously funny Ilse Spieler will be starring in a play for MIMAMUSCH festival this fall. The play is set in the roaring 20s and appropriate Hair and Make up was needed for a photo shoot for the posters to advertise the festival.

So the two ladies and I met on a sunny Saturday morning and had the most hilarious time getting their hair and make up done. Dark lips, dark eyes, signature eyebrows and a 20s hair style. Below are some pics taken by Sanna's boyfriend Martin Fabini, who is not a professional photographer, but a director and play writer. The professional photos that were taking for the Mimamusch festival posters will be posted as soon as I'll get them.

Have a lovely day,

BEAUTY VS MUMMY

Hello :)

a couple of weeks ago we had the gorgeous Ivana from Stella Models in Jürgen Knoths home studio.

We went for complete opposites with Ivana. One look was very a beautiful and clean nude make up, styled with just a white coat, which was actually inspired by a commercial of Charlize Theron for Dior watches.

The second time Ivana visited The House of Knoth (it's time we give it a name, innit?) we turned her into a mummy. Dangerous place to be apparently... ;) We put healing earth (I'm hoping this is what it's called) all over her and let it dry until flakes were coming off her skin. The effect was, depending on whether you're a the-glass-is-half-empty or half-full kinda person, either one of death and decay, or of metamorphosis, like a hatching butterfly :)

Some playing with different photoshop layers; I love the abstract effect!

BEAUTY SHOOT FOR NEWS STYLE - MAKING OF

Hey guys,

after a long period of rejecting the idea of a beauty shoot ('Do you know how much work it is to retouch a beauty shoot?' uhm... nope :p) Jürgen Knoth caved in and did a summer colors and pool themed one for News Style magazine. I think getting a little photoshop add on that prettifies skin in an instant might have helped ;)

It gave me the chance to look over the shoulder of Thomas Orsolis, one of THE best make up artists based in Vienna. Even though Thomas has been successfully working in the industry for many years, he's very down to earth and just super nice and kind. He doesn't take himself and the whole industry too seriously, which make it really funny to work with him :)

Our beautiful model, Adriana from Wilhemina Models, had the hardest job during the shoot. She had to spend what felt like forever in the pool, which was supposed to be 20 something, but in realty was just 16 degrees! She was extremely professional though and just went with it. I was so impressed! I whole heartedly detest cold water; everyone that's ever been to a beach with me can testify that it's not easy to get me to face, or rather touch, the cold sea :p

News Style will be out soon but until then I have some making of pictures to share with y'all :D
Thomas & Adriana pre make up (Thomas was still without afterwards)

PROJECTIONS

Hey there,

some weeks ago we did some light testing with beautiful Diana Alvarez from Stella Models in Vienna. Using a projector, we projected scenes from Federico Fellini movies on her, which created some beautiful effects.

I did two make up looks on Diana. The first one was a really dark smokey eye with a soft peachy lip, paired with black and white scenes from Fellini's '8 1/2'.

The second look was a sparkly blue eye look, which worked really well with some beach and harbor scenes.

Thanks to Diana and Jürgen for this fun shoot!

WIENER MAGAZINE - MAKING OF AM WÖRTHERSEE

Hey guys,

last Sunday, Jürgen, an artdirector, two photo assistants, four models, a stylist, a hair and make up artist, a dog and me were headed out to Pörtschach am Wörthersee to do a photo shoot for Wiener Magazine. The editorial was themed around a bunch of people spending a leisurely day by the lake, soaking up the sun, driving around in a boat and of course showing off some bad ass fashion pieces.

The story will appear in the next issue of Wiener Magazine, but here are some tantalizing Making Of pictures already :)
Not a bad view from our hotel terrace.
Some dog walking.
Chilling on the Hotel terrace and enjoying the scenery.
Happy location scouting with Nina and Jürgen.
(All photos taken by George Kaulfersch.)
Location checking... I hope those poor guests were properly attired.
Dog owners are not allowed to bath their dogs in
Wörthersee... Chica managed to bath herself.

Jürgen works, someone has to.

ROCK CHIC BEAUTY

Dearest reader,

may I present my very first (publicized) paint job!

Chiara has been starring in TV adds for several years already and has now taken up modelling as well. This was one of her first tests to build up her portfolio. So we were basically two newbies playing with make up and the camera. Fun times :) Oh, and Jürgen did some light testing in his home studio, too.

I did two looks on Chiara; the first one being a classic look with a softly defined eye and a red lip.

left: untouched right:prettified with photoshop
some playin around with different layouts
The second look was a bit wilder, more bad ass :p A purple smokey eye paired with a neutral lip.
look #2
bad ass Chiara ;)
Hope you like it!

CAPE TOWN - MAKING OF 'THE DUNES'

Dear readers,

Back in February, when the wind was blowing through the streets of Vienna, when the sky was grey, and the hope for snow long gone, I decided to ditch all that misery and just fly to South Africa for a couple of weeks [it was actually quite sunny and warm, but this just sounds better ; )]. I joined Jürgen Knoth, a fashion and commercial photographer, who also happens to be my boyfriend, to produce a couple of editorials.

Since Cape Town was buzzing with productions at that time of year, finding a stylist was nearly impossible! Luckily though, a design exhibition was taking place just before I arrived, and we ended up choosing our favourite pieces for the photoshoots ourself, directly from the local designers. It was quite a different way to get to know a city and its people, but I enjoyed it a lot!

Jürgen had already decided on a location for our first shoot, a place called Atlantis Dunes. Imagine pristine white sand, dunes beautifully carved by the wind and Cape Town's Table Mountain visible from afar. Just AMAZING. I organised all the required items to get a permit to shoot there, which even included a portable toilet and an environmental conservation officer!

All that was left to do now was to get makeup and hair lined up [all this was happening before I decided to do make up professionally], put the outfits together with our stylist Luiz, whom we did find in the end, book the models, get a 4x4 wheel drive, a tent, clothes racks and buy some food to feed all those hungry mouths. And then we got cracking :)
Home base. Everyone report back here. Also where the food was kept :)
Luiz the stylist makes pretty people even prettier. Here: Tess.
Our friendly environmental conservation officers conserving the environment.
Jürgen doing what he does best. Here: taking amazing photos of Janaina.
Modelling doesn't seem to be a bad job...
Those dunes were simply breath taking. And quite steep too...
Nicole from hair and make up introduced me to dried beef. Loved it.
Not everyone made it out of the desert alive...
Oh she's a diva. You need to be when you're a stylist I suppose ;)
Wind people, we need wind! Luiz made some.

The moon had already risen over the Atlantis Dunes.

Elsofie the photo assistant, Jürgen and Tess flashing, snapping and posing.
And it's a wrap! Jurgen, Tess and me are all smiles :)

Back to home base. We didn't leave anyone behind, not even the skull.

And before we all left, a group picture including our portaloo.
